Why Each Ingredient Is Included
Kangaroo
A lean source of highly digestible animal protein. Kangaroo also contributes nutrients including iron, zinc and vitamin B12.
Lamb Heart
Heart is a muscle meat that provides high-quality protein, iron, zinc, selenium and B vitamins. It also adds variety to the recipe’s animal protein sources.
Sardines
A source of protein and long-chain omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA). Sardines can also contribute calcium when edible bones are present.
Pumpkin
Provides fibre and beta-carotene, while adding moisture and palatability to the meal.
Egg
Provides highly digestible complete protein, as well as nutrients such as choline, selenium, riboflavin and vitamin B12.
Oysters
A nutrient-dense seafood ingredient particularly rich in zinc, copper, selenium and vitamin B12, while also contributing protein.
Broccoli
Provides fibre, vitamin C, vitamin K and folate, along with a range of beneficial plant compounds.
Parsley
Used in a small amount, parsley contributes vitamin K, vitamin C and plant antioxidants, as well as flavour.
Sea Kelp Supplement
Included primarily to provide iodine, which is essential for normal thyroid function. Kelp should be used at the formulated dose because iodine concentrations can vary considerably between products.
Omega-3 Fish Oil
Provides concentrated EPA and DHA, important long-chain omega-3 fatty acids involved in normal cellular function and supporting healthy skin, coat and inflammatory processes.
Calcium Carbonate
Provides calcium, which is essential for healthy bones and teeth, as well as normal muscle and nerve function. Calcium supplementation is particularly important in many home-prepared diets to help achieve an appropriate calcium-to-phosphorus balance.
Chia Seeds
Provide fibre and plant-based omega-3 fatty acid (ALA), along with some protein and minerals.
Oat Bran
A concentrated source of dietary fibre, including soluble fibre such as beta-glucan. It helps increase the overall fibre content of the recipe.
Sunflower Oil
Provides dietary fat and linoleic acid (omega-6), an essential fatty acid important for normal skin and coat health and other physiological functions.
